Gilbert John Chavez Sr.

Age 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Questa, NM on July 16, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born in Center, CO to Pacifica “Alice” Aragon and Roger Chavez. Gilbert served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was active duty in Vietnam. He married Valerie Chavez (Martinez) in 1966. He retired from the Denver Sheriff’s Department and moved to Questa, NM in 1992. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pacifica “Alice” Aragon and Rogerio Chavez, granddaughter, Alyssa sRomero, brother, Albert Cordero, sister, Mary Aragon and son-in-law, Oscar Talavera. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Chavez (Martinez), children, Donna Chavez, Paula Chavez, Gilbert Jr. (Michelle), Marcie Gomez (Robert), grandchildren, Julian and Geno Romero (Crystal), Leah Rush (Wyatt), Domonique and Onesimo Talavera, Brittany Romero and Justina Chavez, Robert Jr., Briana (Julian), and Sabrina Gomez, great-grandchildren, Nakoma Romero, Gabriel Myszka, Leonoel Talavera-Vega, and Liam Garcia, sisters, Isabel Garcia, Priscilla Trujillo, and Patricia Rodriguez, and brother, Roger Chavez Jr. He also had many close relatives and friends. Rosary will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 6 PM at Cerro Catholic Church. Rosary and Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 12:30 PM at Holy Name Catholic Church, 3290 W. Milan Ave, Sheradin, CO with interment to follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 2:30 PM. Arrangements by Rivera Family Funeral Home.
