Body recovered from Rio Grande Gorge

Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe confirmed Saturday (Oct. 9) that a

body was recovered from the Rio Grande Gorge in the area of the Gorge Bridge. The recovery was completed by sheriff's deputies Saturday morning.

The identity of the body has not been confirmed, but Hogrefe said on Saturday it is believed to be a man from California.

"All personnel are back topside – no injuries or other related incidents," he said.

The Office of the Medical Investigator works to identify bodies under these circumstances and the Sheriff's Office does not release their identity

until next of kin have been notified.
