Tigers win two out of three at Ruidoso Madness Shootout

The Tigers started the Ruidoso Madness Shootout by sinking their

teeth into the Santa Fe Prep Blue Griffins on Thursday (Jan. 6) and came away with the win, 72-36, and racked up one loss and a final win by the tournament’s end.

On Friday (Jan. 7) the Tigers lost in overtime to the Goddard Rockets. Prior to facing Taos, Goddard

faced a pseudo school (a team that is not covered by MaxPreps, a division of CBS sports focusing on high school competitions). The

team is also a non-varsity-level opponent. Winning that game by 30 (76-36) points gave number 91-ranked Goddard some momentum heading into this game. Goddard had a failure to launch in the

first quarter: They couldn’t crack double digits on the scoreboard. In

the second quarter, however, they doubled their scoring output, and

in the third quarter they blasted off with 19 points. At the end of

regulation it was tied 54-54. The Rockets outscored the Tigers 11-6 in overtime to win the game.

Senior Power Forward Noah Reese went above and beyond for

the Rockets. He scored 23 points, and grabbed 15 rebounds. Most of the damage came from the free

throw line; he had 17 free-throw attempts for the game.

The Tigers bounced back on Saturday ( Jan. 8) versus number 73-ranked Tatum. After giving up 65 points the day before, the Tigers hung their hats on defense to

secure the blowout victory. Tatum were held way below their team

scoring average of 40 points for the season, losing 16-62 against the Tigers.
