Lady Tigers soccer on losing streak

By JEANS PINEDA jpineda@taosnews.com

The Taos Lady Tigers (3-6-1) lost against the West Las Vegas Lady Dons on Monday (Sept. 19) following an earlier loss against the Robertson Cardinals on Sept. 17.

West Las Vegas struck first midway through the second half on Monday with a cross into the six yard box resulting in a tap-in goal. A few minutes later, Taos responded with a goal of their own to tie it

and send it into overtime, clawing their way back into the game.

It was a physical match. Lady Dons defender Danielle Marquez made a game-saving challenge in the second period of overtime against Taos, who was looking to break away towards goal with a through pass with open space in front of Lady Tigers forward Rowan Heflin.

Then West Las Vegas managed to sneak in a pass through traffic and get off a shot that went past the outstretched arms of Taos captain Jade Mares in the final seconds of double overtime for the win, 2-1.

Against the Cardinals

On Sept. 17, the Cardinals were five goals to the good by half time. After the first half, the Lady Tigers switched goalkeepers, going from captain Jade Mares who made eight saves to sophomore Vanessa Herrera in the second half.

Herrera would also have her work cut out for her as Robertson did not let up in the attack in the

second half, scoring another four goals to put the game well out of reach for the Lady Tigers.

Senior Cardinal Amber Doss recorded a super hat trick while senior teammate Molly Flure recorded a brace. The two seniors accounted for six of the nine goals on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers will play against the Academy for Technology and the Classics at Eco Park on Thursday (Sept. 22).
