Daffron takes third in Rio Rancho Jamboree

The Peñasco Panthers and the Taos Tigers participated in the 2022 Rio Rancho Jamboree which was held at Rio Rancho’s cross country course on Saturday (Sept 17). Sixty seven teams in total competed in the large running rally which had different tiers of competition ranging from middle school to varsity, and at the highest level, the championship flight.

The Peñasco athletes and the Taos girls ran in the championship flight. The Taos boys had fair results in the varsity division. The Tigers top performers were Judah Daffon, Billy Romero, Elaina

Cisneros and Jacqueline Limas. Daffron (18:07.80) had a top three finish in the varsity boys category. Romero (19:26.0) as an eight grader competing against varsity runners came in thirteenth place. Cisneros (21:56.20) and Limas (23:17.10) finished 21st and 42nd respectively in the championship girls category.

The top performers for the Panthers were Jude Martinez, Matias Vigil, Rochelle Lopez and Charnelle Gonzales. Martinez (18:30.50) and Vigil (21:22.20) finished 40th and 104th respectively in the championship boys category while Lopez (21:55.10) and Gonzales (21:57.10) finished in 20th and 22nd respectively in the championship girls category.

Next up the Taos Tigers will lace up their running shoes and head to Santa Fe for the Capital City cross county meet on Saturday (Sept 24). On Saturday (Sept 24) the Peñasco Panthers will be at the East Mountain Nick Martin Invite, near the Sandia Ski Slopes. According to the MileSplit registration form the race features “several rolling hills and longer straight-aways, but one big hill that will be in the middle of the race and again at the end. It will begin and end on a soccer field and funnel into a wide dirt path.”
