Jesus Hernandez, 77, of Taos

Age 77, of Taos, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023. Born in Havana, Cuba on June 2, 1945, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, now reunited with his parents, Jose and Blanca, and his brother, Omar. Jesus immigrated to the United States with his family in 1962 and married the love of his life, Nancy, in 1965. With a new family, he began a career in banking, which led to various assignments including six years working in South America. After 23 years, he left banking to pursue a Master’s degree in Education and a second career. Starting as a teacher, he retired as a Principal in 2008 and moved to Taos. Retirement did not stop him from helping the community as a part-time tax preparer for H&R Block in Taos. Throughout his life, he had an uncanny ability to find the best in people and inspire them to pursue their dreams. He was kind, generous with his time, and most importantly, he listened. In his free time, he enjoyed creating albums of the family photos he took at all events, big or small. Documenting our family history was an important part of his legacy for which we are all grateful. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hernandez, his children, Richmond Chandler, Daniel Hernandez, Guinevere Hernandez-Ervin & Bill Ervin (son-in-law), and grandchildren, Mikayla & Alexander. He is also survived by his younger sister, Liset Hernandez. Our family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support during this difficult time. Funeral service was held on Friday January 20, 2023 at 10am in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos with burial following at the Sierra Vista Cemetery. The family of Jesus Hernandez has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos. www.devargastaos.com 1-866-657-4019
