All Star nod for Peñasco first baseman

The lineups for the New Mexico High School Coaches Association (NMHCA) 2023 1A-3A Red vs. Green All Star game have been finalized.

Among those set to play in Cleveland High on Friday and Saturday (June 2-3) is Peñasco first baseman Adam Archuleta. In his senior year, Archuleta posted a batting average of .644 in 59 atbats.

In each succeeding year, Archuleta has been able to raise his batting average. His freshman year, he batted .250, and he ended his high school career with a .536 average.

In the Panther’s final home game of the season against the McCurdy Bobcats on Monday (May 1), Archuleta went yard, hitting his first varsity home run.

The All Star game will pair Archuleta with players he’s faced as district rivals; Damian Quezada and Adrian Maestas of the Bobcats. Joaquin Barela, of the Mora Rangers, will be in the more familiar position of being in the opposite dugout against Archuleta.
